Four nights on one island, with nothing planned

The Maldives done the simple way: you land at Malé, a speedboat or seaplane takes you across the lagoon, and for four nights you do not move again. The resort is all-inclusive, so meals and drinks are taken care of, and the days are for the reef, the water sports, the pool and the villa's own jacuzzi.

There are two resorts to choose from. One keeps you in an overwater villa for all four nights and brings you across by speedboat; the other splits the stay between a beach villa and an ocean villa and flies you in by seaplane. This itinerary was planned for a family of four, two adults and two children, and works just as well for a couple.

1. Day 1 Arrive, and across the lagoon Malé to the resort

   You are met at Velana International Airport in Malé and taken to the resort, by speedboat or by seaplane depending on the island you choose. The rest of the day is free, and the all-inclusive plan starts on arrival.

2. Day 2 A day at leisure At the resort

   Nothing is scheduled. Snorkel off the villa, take out a kayak or a paddleboard, or do nothing at all.

   Another free day. At Furaveri Island this is where you move from the beach villa to the ocean villa, and a good day for the complimentary sunset cruise or island-hopping trip.

The resorts, two options

Centara Mirage Lagoon adds a meet-and-greet at the airport with help to the speedboat, access to the lazy river and water complex, and the E-Zone for children. Furaveri Island adds a complimentary sunset cruise or island-hopping tour for two (choose one), complimentary meals for up to two children aged 2 to 14, a bottle of wine in the villa each day on request, tea and coffee making in the villa, the wellness village with gym, tennis and badminton, yoga three times a week, games at the Udhares Bar and evening entertainment every day. Its kids' club takes children from 4 to 14.

A look at the island

Before you book

• Entry. Indian passport holders receive a visa on arrival in the Maldives; carry a passport valid for at least six months, your return ticket and the resort confirmation. We reconfirm the rules before your travel date.
• Transfers. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so a late-evening arrival at Malé may mean a night in the city before the Furaveri transfer. Send us your flight times and we plan around them.
• Children. Tell us the age of each child when you enquire: child meals, kids' club access and villa occupancy all depend on it.
• Rooms. Villas and villa categories are subject to availability at the time of booking; the quotation confirms what is held for you.
